Fabric collage class based on the Lipstick Ranch art of KC Willis.

The details of making my art have never been videotaped before...so this is a first for you and for me! We will cover a lot in this workshop. And when all is said and done you will have the ammo needed to make art using beloved family photos or any favorite photo. Basic machine sewing is helpful, but you can do it using hand stitching or even just gluing, if you have an aversion to thread. But for the best look you're going to want to sew, and you don't need an expensive machine at all. And you don't have to do western art here. Any fabrics you love and a photo that inspires will do! Once you pay the Collage Camp fee below, you will be able to access these videos at anytime and work at your own pace. There will be videos on: • Coffee-staining lots of things! • Photo transfers
• Combining papers and fabrics
• Burning techniques
• How to layer for texture
• Putting the basics together
• Making mixed media collages for embellishment
• My tricks to finding and harvesting cool things to use as materials
• Embellishing with found objects
• How to make a hanging device
• Make pieces using mostly paper and cardboard.
• How to put together larger pieces with multiple images and quotes.
• And I will also offer fun and hopefully inspiring advice and stories on life as an artist.

Details, Details...

The KC Willis Collage Camp is an extension of my art line called Lipstick Ranch. This art celebrates the women of yesteryear, with a special love and emphasis on the Women of the West. You, of course can use any family image you love or any image in Public Domain. We will go over step-by-step the making of a 16x20 piece, as well as have challenges from time to time to suggest completing other pieces. The techniques are such that in the end the work you will make will look old and weathered with luscious layers of fabrics, collages and embellishments.

You join the artist's group here at The Camp when you pay your registration. Once the videos are up you can watch them at your leisure and be involved with the Camp Community as much or as little as you like. You will make friends and you will be inspired by the work that will be done here.

HOW TO SELL YOUR WORK

Marketing Mindset is something I am very excited about. I love to teach and I love to share. Up 'til now, teaching has always been about my techniques and how I make my work. During my workshops, whether they're on-line or in person at my studio in Colorado, the question of marketing comes up time and time again. Such a simple word: marketing...but there is so much to it. In my new workshop I will cover marketing issues that you will face if you are in the midst of an art career and I will cover the basics for all those who are just getting started. I have been both places.

I have had successful careers as a writer/publicist in the entertainment industry, marketing luxury real estate and for the past decade I have been focused on making a name for myself and my work in the art market. In the first two years of making my fabric collage art I was featured on HGTV, had my work added to the permanent collection of a major museum and had a one-woman show in Soho in New York City. That didn't happen by accident.

Check out my new workshop on making your place in the marketplace.

KC on HGTV

This six minute video was filmed a few years ago when I lived in Santa Fe by a crew from Home and Garden Television. It's a good piece for you to see how fabric can carry a house! Get ready to make your own unique fabric art using transferred images and words.

And I would suggest you try watching this to see if your computer can view my videos. There are 3 little glitches in the first 5 seconds of the video. After that it should be fine, unless your computer and/or internet connection isn't compatible. The class will be available for purchase on DVD as an alternative.
